Producing a Guide of archival practices in performing arts
On the 28th of March, CENDREV will host the 3rd Journey of the ARTHE project – Archive the Theatre (PTDC/ART-PER/1651/2021) at Teatro Garcia de Resende which will bring together the team of researchers, partner companies, consultants, institutional partners and guests to present a first proposal aimed at preparing the Guide to Archival Practices in Performing Arts, which will be one of the results of the project. The Journey includes a Residency on the 26th and 27th and a public work day on the 28th of March that will take place between 10am and 5:30pm.
After the elaboration, application, validation and analysis of a questionnaire prepared to identify the situation of the archives of the 18 partner companies, it is time to identify the needs felt by the companies and to which archival practices designed from the performing arts can respond. It will be necessary to collect the contribution of archival science and cross-reference it both with the specificities of the materials of the creation structures – without neglecting various typologies of the organicity of its archives – and with the uses that these materials and agents propose in their creation and conservation activities. We will then present a proposal that is still open so that the concrete work to be carried out during the Journey can take place in order that we can continue, duly informed, to produce a guide that can serve structures with a long history of archival production, as well as more recent structures that apply, to the production, actions framed by different management and artistic creation modalities.
