8th February saw the launch of Compêndio Gil Vicente, at Lecture Theatre 3 in FLUL. Recently published by the Coimbra University Press and the Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda, this compendium of the dramatist’s works was coordinated by José Augusto Cardoso Bernardes and José Camões.
This is the most recent panoramic work on the production of one of the most important names in 16th century Portuguese Culture. It contains summaries of the research that various ‘Vincentians’ have been doing on the dramatist (life, work, models, genres, aesthetic references, etc.). Various scholars made valuable contributions, including Amélia Maria Correia, Armando López Castro, Christine Zurbach, Hélio J. S. Alves, Isabel Almeida, Telmo Verdelho, João Nunes Sales Machado, Jorge A. Osório, José Javier Rodriguez, Manuel Calderón, Patricia Odber de Baubeta, Pere Ferré, Sebastiana Fadda and Maria Idalina Resina Rodrigues.
The volume was presented by Thomas Earl, of Oxford University.
