5th edition of the Dramaturgy Laboratory: O SONHO DE ALGUÉM by Lara Morgado presented by Armando Nascimento Rosa.
Since the Dramaturgy Laboratory was founded by Teatro Meridional in collaboration with CET, in 2013, it has aimed to encourage the creation of new texts in Portuguese by promoting a joint venture between writers and a panel of artists and academics in the writing of a text.
The 5th edition, which ran between January and September 2019, proposed a particular theme for the writers, multiplied through the following questions: ‘Who speaks for you?’, or ‘To whom do you lend your voice?’, or ‘How do you make yourself heard?’; as well as from the following Keywords: Conflict; (In)coherence; Individual / Collective; (In)visibility; Fear; Representation / Representativeness; Survival.
The work carried out resulted in the text, O Sonho de Alguém by Lara Morgado, now published in the Nova Dramaturgia Portuguesa [New Portuguese Dramaturgy] collection, in partnership with the Lendias d’Encantar Theatre Company and Folha de Medronho – Artes Performativas.
Synopsis of O Sonho de Alguém [Someone’s Dream]:
In a macabre coincidence, two women meet on the same day, at the same time, on a train line to end their lives. Death is suspended and life presents itself for an unthinkable confrontation.
Prémio Nova Dramaturgia [New Dramaturgy Prize] 2019: A Infinda Apetência da Luz do Sol by Eduardo Molina
Every trimester, simultaneously with Escenarios, Lendias d’Encantar publishes a new volume of the “Nova Dramaturgia Portuguesa” collection, comprising two new texts. In addition to the obvious contribution to the promotion of unpublished and original works in Portuguese, it enhances dramatic literature as an autonomous artistic genre. This initiative also intends to make new working tools available to performing arts professionals.
Synopsis of A Infinda Apetência da Luz do Sol [The Endless Appetite for Sun]:
Nobody teaches us to say goodbye. Not our mother, not those we meet, nor those closest to us. They don’t teach us to moderate the grip our thin fingers have on things, clinging to everything, not knowing, not wanting to let go.
These places are the streets, the places where I was unravelling. The pavements that are my rooms, the steps where I waited in vain, the doors where I kept looking back. The rubble of time. The circles I map out with the compass repeatedly beyond the sheet, beyond the table, beyond me already. I still linger on the steps, at the doors, with the dawn, waiting for the one who leaves, the one who left, the one who never said goodbye, my first love. I am the evening light on the facades, orange. I am the simulation of the sunset when it leaves.
