The I Listen to Migration Stories performance is the practical-integration part of the doctorate research called “Migrations in Scene”, part of the Doctorate in Theater Studies of the Lisbon University’s Language Faculty and welcomed by the Theater Study Centre (Centro de Estudos de Teatro – CET). The Science and Technology Foundation (Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia – FCT) financed it through an investigative scholarship. Professor Doctor Catarina Firmo (CET – Universidade de Lisboa) advises this doctoral research, which is also co-advised by Professor Doctor Luciana Hartmann (UNB).
This performance, in the making since 2021, premiered at the RAIA residence and ran from April 25 to 31, 2021 at the Alkantara in Lisbon. It also integrated the GT Artes Cênicas programming at the XI Congresso da Associação Brasileira de Artes Cênicas – ABRACE, which happened virtually from July 14 to 18, 2021. This investigative performance in a public space allows us to listen to subjective migration, changes, refugee, and exile stories by artistically experimenting with the Pedagogy of Listening by Paulo Freire (1990), Wilmer Villa, and Ernell Villa (2010). It is based on the re-performance concept taken from the “I Listen to Love Stories” (Escuto Histórias de Amor) by Ana Teixeira, initially performed in 2005. This performance joins the practical research line as research.
