(Un)safe Practices with Julyen Hamilton

Unsafe practice series

WORKING WITH OBJECTS

In this edition of the Centre for Theatre Studies’ (Un)safe Practices, the renowned teacher and performer Julyen Hamilton will hold an online workshop under the topic of Working with Objects.

Julyen Hamilton’s performances are characterized by several different recurring elements, such as light, sound, space, text, speech and the use of objects. These elements have been deeply researched and practiced over the artist forty years of career. Julyen Hamilton’s work with theatrical décor and the relation of the performer’s body with objects in the space is of essence and accompanies all of his pieces: objects placed, handled, spoken to, danced beside, destroyed and created – all reveal a particular poetry, especially when in the context of the ‘naked’ dancer’s body.

In Working with Objects, Julyen Hamilton will guide the participants through this subject, working the body thoroughly and in the context of objects ‘on stage’. During the four days (daily sessions of three hours each) of the workshop, the par4cipants will, thus, consider and practice how to enter into poetic rela4onships with objects and discover how they can participate and reveal further layers of imagery in performance.
