The project PREC.PT: Performance and Theatre during the Ongoing Revolutionary Process (1974-75) aims to recover the memory of theatrical and performance activities in Portugal from April 25, 1974 to November 25, 1975. The questions we aim to answer with this research project are: What changed in performing arts in Portugal and how did it change? What were the debates held within the professional milieu, how did art and artists react to the new social context, and the need to foster a democratic society? Fifty years after the Carnation Revolution, PREC.PT sets out to map the events, collect and systematise the scattered documentation, and interview the agents who participated in the performing arts scene during this period.
As its acronym suggests, PREC.PT inherits part of CET’s tradition of combining the History of Theatre in Portugal with Digital Humanities. The project will last 18 months and is scheduled to begin in June 2024, with Teatro Experimental do Porto (TEP) as an institutional partner. The team includes members from all of the center’s research groups and is composed of José Pedro Sousa (PI), Rui Pina Coelho (co-PI), Ariadne Nunes, Gustavo Vicente, Maria João Brilhante, Marta Rosa, Paula Magalhães, and Vera San Payo de Lemos.
