The sixth volume of this collection is dedicated to João Anastácio Rosa (1812?-1884), an actor who belonged to the first generation of romantic actors, just like Emília das Neves, biographed in the fourth volume of this collection. His name is associated not only with an era in which it was sought to make the theatre a factor of civilization and modernization of society, but also with the transformation of the image of the actor in that same society. This biography invites us to discover, through the discourse of his contemporaries, how his contribution to the new role conferred to the theatre resided not only in the artistic qualities he revealed on stage and in the fine arts, but also in the projection he knew how to give to his own figure as an actor. In that sense, he was a modern actor.
