In 2022, the International Conference PERPHOTO brought together scholars and artists from around the world in Lisbon to further define this field of study. The event fostered in-depth theoretical reflection, going beyond possible practical applications and questioning the processes, perspectives, and limits that emerge from the intersection of photography and the performing arts, particularly regarding issues related to the archive, the body, and the medium.
Following the contributions and discussions generated by that conference, this thematic issue of Sinais de Cena aims to continue this transdisciplinary debate. We therefore invite scholars and artists to submit article proposals that reflect on the multiple challenges, opportunities, and limits arising from the encounter and intersection between photography and the performing arts, addressing both theoretical and practical questions. Topics may include stage photography, photography on stage, and performative photography.
