On 19th March, at the Pimenta Palace, the actor and researcher, Guilherme Filipe gave a talk entitled, “O Gosto pelo Público que Sustenta o Teatro: Pessoas, Espaços e Repertórios na Lisboa de Oitocentos”. The talk provided an overall analysis of conditions for creators of the Garrettian mercado factício (factitious market), and of theatre acquiring the status of a vehicle for the education of the people through illustration and entertainment, between the spheres of public and semi-private theatres of private individuals, whose interactivity dynamised dramatic production, performance, and developed the critical spirit of aesthetic reception and popular illustration.
