In 2002, the Centre for Theatre Studies celebrated the 500th anniversary of Gil Vicente’s first theatrical performance with a large-scale International Congress. Ten years later, in 2012, they celebrated the 450th anniversary of the publication of the Compilação de Todalas Obras with a colloquium that updated knowledge about the work of Gil Vicente produced in the decade between the two meetings. Now, ten years after the last event, the Centre for Theatre Studies promotes yet another meeting of specialists who propose new perspectives on the work of Gil Vicente, in a year that marks 500 years of the transition from the reign of King Manuel I to that of D. João III.
