(Un)safe Conversations with Vitor Lemos

Unsafe conversations

THE ACTOR/ACTRESS’ CREATIVE PROCESS AS AN EXERCISE OF “DIFFERENCE”

In the second edition of the (Un)safe Conversations, we invited Vítor Lemos to talk about the actor/actress’ creative process as an exercise of “difference” through the appropriation of Stanislavski’s physical actions. Following his post-doctoral research, the experienced director and pedagogue has been revisiting the  Russian system strategies based on assumptions of contemporary theatre to provide the actor and actress a privileged contact with the unknown dimension that exists in everything that surrounds and crosses them on the scene. The action that results from this contact shakes stable conceptions of the “self” and the circumstances in which it is created – as shown by the practices developed in the O Canto do Bode studio, where the actors and actresses had been continually defied, even in a fictional context, to turn their creative processes into processes of subjectification. In this conversation, Vitor Lemos will address the principles and the methodology that have been guiding his pedagogical and artistic approach, not only in light of the critical thinking around stage acting but also taking into consideration the potential of his work as a force of articulation of “difference” in political, social and cultural life.
