This volume appears as the ‘catalogue’ of the Vicente Exhibition, a series of original canvases by Ilda David’ embedded in the niches of the walls of the Salão Nobre of the Teatro Nacional de São João, in Porto, conceived and executed on the occasion of the staging of Breve Sumário da História de Deus, a show that premiered on 20 November 2009.
The play tells the story of the world. As well as biblical characters such as Adam and Eve, Abel, Job, Abraham Moses, David, Isaiah and St John, there are allegorical characters such as the World, Time and Death. It is a didactic theatre that explains the passage from the laws of nature and scripture to the law of grace. The biblical characters – representatives of the old laws – will be taken prisoner by devils and taken to limbo, where they will await the arrival of Christ the Redeemer, representative of the law of grace.
