Similar to what already exists in other European countries, this Repertório Teatral na Lisboa Oitocentista (1835-1846) presents, in an organised and systematised way, the daily activity of the capital's theatres which, during this period, experienced an unusual vitality, caused by the permanence of a French company, a fact that would have a notable impact on the Portuguese literary and artistic field. The regular operation of the two reference theatres (Teatro do Salitre and Teatro da Rua dos Condes), the number of shows and plays per show, the variety of the repertoire, which was then made up of originals, adaptations and imitations, is a clear foretaste of the development that was to take place in the theatrical field during the Portuguese romantic period.
