On the 9th of July, an event will take place at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon on the theme A State of Availability: on the propaedeutic nature of writing plays – [Dialogue between playwrights José Manuel Mora and Javier Hernando about the process creative of his pieces], with the participation of José Manuel Mora and Javier Hernando from the Escola Superior de Arte Dramática de Castilla y León (Valladolid).

José Manuel Mora

Crisis: the tangent to the circle. Thought experiment: the search for meaning. Images vs. ideas. Conversion: paradigm shift. Dialogue and interdisciplinary processes: dismantling work on oneself. Mysticism and heresies.

Javier Hernando

The stage as a testing ground. Against the mirror metaphor. World vs. representation. Transfers between fiction and reality. Utopia and participation. About the idea of ​​assembly: holes and possibilities. Constellation and fragment vs. theatrical carpentry.

Javier Hernando. Ávila, 1986. Professor at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Castilla y León. Together with Miguel Rojo, he runs the company Los Bárbaros. He has presented his work in places such as Centro Dramático Nacional, La Casa Encendida, Azkuna Zentroa, CIAV-Naves de Matadero, Teatros del Canal, Teatro de La Abadía and CCC-Conde Duque. His play Familia Feliz (Primer Ato, 353) was published in French by Les Solitaires Intempestifs (Une famille heureuse, 2020). He has published books of poetry and articles in specialized magazines such as Primer Ato, Dramática or Theater der Zeit or in the book Staging 21st Century Tragedies Theatre, Politics, and Global Crisis edited by Avra ​​Sidiropoulou and published by Routledge. Together with Rocío Bello, he wrote the plays Estrellas y agujeros pretos (entre otras cosas), winner of the ASSITEJ Spain Prize for Theater for Children and Young People 2016, and Necesito una flor, (Soup of letters. Anaya, 2020), winner of the SGAE Prize of Children’s Theater 2019.

José Manuel Mora. After abandoning his biology studies, he moved to Madrid, where he studied writing and dramaturgy at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático e Filosofia at the University of Salamanca. He continued his studies in London, Berlin and Amsterdam, where he completed a master’s degree in theater at the University of Amsterdam. His plays have been translated into English, Greek, French, Italian, German, Japanese and Serbian; and premiered at the National Dramatic Center; at Teatros del Canal; at the Teatro Nacional de Catalunya; at Teatro Español and Matadero, among other national and international creation centers. He was selected as a playwright by the Royal Court Theatre, in London, by the Programa de Jóvenes Creadores del FONCA (Mexico); by TR Warszawa, in Warsaw, and by Teatro Nacional São João, in Porto; and, in two editions, at the Berliner Festspiele und Theatertreffen, in Berlin (2008 and 2012). He is currently artistic director of Draft.inn, together with Carlota Ferrer, with whom he signed Los Nadadores Noturnos; This is not La Casa de Bernarda Alba; Los Cuerpos Perdidos; among other texts; and the Master’s Degree in Contemporary Thought and Creation at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Castilla y León. For some time now, he has been studying Religious Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid.
