Brecht in Focus is a study group project that aims to discuss Brecht's work in three independent modules: didactic plays (2024), poems (2025) and photography (2026). In this module, each group meeting will focus on an area related to photography as a method of creation: photos of rehearsals, performances and research.
We invite researchers, artists, and enthusiasts to examine the intersection between Brechtian theory and practice and the use of photography. Our study group will explore how Bertolt Brecht not only appropriated photography, but also elevated it to an essential method for the creation, analysis, and documentation of his work and critical thinking. Each meeting will be dedicated to a fundamental aspect of this relationship. Stay tuned for details on registration and meeting dates!
