Cândida ou o pessimismo

‘Cândida ou o pessimismo’ by Cucha Carvalheiro is a satirical fable. Cândida, a Portuguese-African actress at the end of her career and suffering from psychotic breaks, claims to have the “gift” of tuning in and broadcasting live pieces of the lives of various characters who live or have lived with her. The old maid, the mother with dementia, the husband who wants to make money at the cost of the famine in Angola, a housewife who is always running between various activities and a feminist journalist who writes political texts. Cândida, ‘hired’ by the Intergalactic Brotherhood to search for signs of intelligent life in the universe, realises that her mission is failing. Asked what she used to do, she explains that she used to do theatre.
