‘Cândida ou o pessimismo’ has arrived at Teatroesfera and with it five wonderful actresses and women! Ana Saragoça, Isabel Ribas, Lucinda Loureiro, Paula Sousa and Teresa Faria bring this fantastic text by Cucha Carvalheiro to the stage, directed by Lucinda Loureiro.
Cândida, a Portuguese-African actress at the end of her career and suffering from psychotic breaks, claims to have the ‘gift’ of tuning in and broadcasting live pieces of the lives of various characters who live or have lived with her. The old maid, the mum with dementia, the husband who wants to make money at the cost of the famine in Angola, a housewife who is always running between different activities and a feminist journalist who writes political texts.
Cândida, ‘hired’ by the Intergalactic Brotherhood to search for signs of intelligent life in the universe, realises that her mission is being unsuccessful.
