The II Theatre Studies Conference will take place on October 24 and 25 at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), organised by the Centre for Theatre Studies, under the theme «Past and Present: Places of the Performing Arts in the Post-April 25 period». After the first conference in 2022, which recalled the legacy of José Alberto Osório Mateus in theatre studies at the School of Arts and Humanities and beyond, the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution in 2024 will serve as the motto for a two-days meeting where this moment in Portugal’s recent history will be revisited. The event includes: – The exhibition «Restos e Rastos do teatro num tempo revolucionário/ado», a documentary and bibliographical display based on the collections of Osório Mateus, Mário Barradas and Luiz Francisco Rebello; – The round table «Fios da Memória: Palcos do 25 de Abril», featuring guests who will remember and discuss the various stages of the Carnation Revolution, both past and present; Carlos Paulo, Fernanda Neves, Gonçalo Amorim, Joana Craveiro e Luís Varela; – «Microfone Aberto», a moment when some people with diverse experiences in the performing arts during this period can take the microphone and talk about how theatre influenced their lives following the April Revolution; – «Palavras Soltas», a series of readings based on a dramaturgy of texts by and about theatre written between April 1974 and 1976. – The presentation of the project “Performance e Teatro durante o PREC”, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, which aims to recover the memory of theatre during the ongoing revolutionary process.
