The theatre of Fernando Pessoa has been the subject of recent critical editions both on paper and in digital format.
The Teatro Estático plays were published in a volume edited by Filipa de Freitas and Patricio Ferrari. Another crucial part of Pessoa’s theatre is its reinvention of the Faust legend, now available in its first critical-genetic edition, prepared by Carlos Pittella. Defending the intrinsic non-linearity of Faust, this edition is complemented by the project, “Faust: a digital existence” (CET-FLUL), available on the Internet.
Through these three initiatives, this conference (21st June 2018) invited us to revisit Fernando Pessoa’s dramatic work and rethink its relationship with other literary worlds, such as French symbolism and Russian modernism, and with other authors who influenced its creation, namely Goethe, Marlowe, Maeterlinck and Shakespeare.
