The manuscript collection in the Jorge de Faria Room originated when bibliophile and theatre critic Jorge Brandão Figueiredo de Faria (1888-1960) donated it to the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra in 1960. The 1110 manuscripts presented in this catalogue are part of a collection of around 29,000 bibliographical items relating to theatre and other performing arts. They focus mainly on the theatre that was written and performed in the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century in Portugal. The catalogue is therefore a research tool for researchers into the history of theatre in Portugal, both in the field of performance and literature.
