Companhia Rey Colaço-Robles Monteiro by Joana d’Eça Leal
The Biographies of Portuguese Theater collection is aimed at a wide audience and is intended to contribute not only to the dissemination of outstanding figures in Portuguese theater in the 19th and 20th centuries, but also to knowledge of the history of theater itself.
Given the small number of works published in this area, which in no way reflects the research that has been carried out in recent years, especially in academic circles, we will try to take advantage of the knowledge brought by these studies, since they contain new data and new perspectives, resulting from the analysis of documentation that is already available in many libraries. In the light of this new reality of theatrical studies, it is possible to offer a new focus on the paths to be presented, while allowing a comprehensive but also more precise view of our theatrical past.
The choice of biographers was based on several criteria: artistic and social relevance, diversity and longevity of the personalities in question; figures who have not been the subject of a recent publication, unless they are considered unavoidable, and who allow for crossovers and connections with TNDM II’s programming.
