On 25 February 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Aljube Museum – Resistance and Freedom (Lisbon) will host the Symposium “Theatre, Performance and the Revolutionary Process in Progress.” With free admission, the event invites reflection on the ways in which theatre and performance contributed to the building of democracy in Portugal. This meeting is part of the activities of the project PREC.PT: Performance and Theatre during PREC (FCT 2023.10644.25ABR), carried out by researchers from the Centre for Theatre Studies (CET) in partnership with the Círculo de Cultura Teatral – Teatro Experimental do Porto, within the framework of the call “25th of April and Portuguese Democracy,” promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the 50th Anniversary of 25th of April Commemorative Commission. The programme features contributions from the project’s consultants Christine Zurbach (University of Évora) and Luís Trindade (NOVA University Lisbon), as well as guest interlocutor Francisco Bairrão Ruivo (IHC and Museu do Aljube). It also includes the presentation of interim results from the PREC.PT project, work developed within the seminar Theatre: Democracy and Revolution in the Theatre and Performance Studies Programme at the School of Humanities, University of Lisbon, and the launch of the book The Great Almost-Official Celebrations of the Historical Period Commonly Known as the PREC, organised by the Popular Festivities Committee of Teatro Experimental do Porto and Assédio (Húmus, 2025).
