The Comuna - Teatro de Pesquisa and the construction of democracy: stories from the stage during the PREC

On Saturday, 6 December, at 4 p.m., there will be an open session on the work of Comuna -Teatro de Pesquisa after 25 April, at the Teatro da Comuna, in Praça de Espanha. Videos from the period will be shown, as well as documents and records that help to revisit the transformative energy of those decisive years, focusing on two significant moments: the cancellation of the performance of A Cegada on 10 June 1974, and Comuna's participation in the MFA's Cultural Dinamisation Campaigns.
This session aims to recover a unique moment in Portuguese history, when theatre -alongside other arts - was called upon to take on the role of spokesperson for democracy, civic participation and fraternity. An opportunity to rediscover Comuna as a creative and intervening force, at a time when freedom was also being rehearsed on stage.

The session will be presented by Marta Brites Rosa, researcher at the Centre for Theatre Studies at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon and member of the Performance and Theatre in PREC project (2023.10644.25ABR DOI https://doi.org/10.54499/2023.10644.25ABR).

Organisation: Afonso Silva, Fábio Belém, Marta Rosa
