MANIFESTATIONS OF SEXUALITY IN THE ARTS – aesthetic, ethical and political effects and consequences
2nd Cycle of Conferences – 2021/2022
Synopsis: This second cycle of conferences is part of the last stage of a post-doctoral research by Bruno Schiappa, which aims to question the relationship between Art and Society. Having started from a limited relationship to Theater and Society, Schiappa recognized that it was a broader relationship, since Art in general has an impact on the construction of society and the individual, in this order or in reverse. The fantastic, the seduction of the senses, eroticism, fantasy and, of course, still and always, Aristotle, will be themes for reflection on the relationship between Art and Sexuality(ies), which is not the same thing as sex and the sexual act.
Still Aristotle: ethos and representation of the human Going back to Aristotle to think about the representation of human actions in dramatic poetry as an invention and a form of knowledge is always stimulating. However, we are also interested in analyzing these actions represented by the poet as realizations of “ways of being” or ethos that determine human behavior in society. We will start from Aristotle’s Poetics to understand it in the wider space of thinking about happiness and its realization, as well as to question the moral and political implications of the representation itself.
